Steve Jobs

Then you can read the full text of Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation Studios, to graduates from Standford University.

"I am honored to be here with you today at the graduation of one of the most prestigious universities in the world. I have never graduated from college, to be honest, this is the closest moment to a graduation I attended. I say 3 short stories of my life Just that, about the union of life points I left college after 6 months but I stayed on the campus for another 18 months Why did I give up? It all started before I was born My mother Biology was a young student who had not graduated yet and decided to give me up for adoption. She felt I had to be adopted by a family with higher education, so everything was arranged as a lawyer's family to adopt me. The next family called "Sure!" The adoptive parents did not have a faculty, but they promised that the boy would have one L I was 18 years old when I came to college, an expensive one on my parents' life savings. After 6 months I did not see any point in going to college because I did not understand how it would help me figure out who I am and what I want to do with my life. I decided to drop out of college and hope everything would be all right. Then I felt small and helpless, but when I look back I realize it was one of my best decisions. As soon as I dropped out of compulsory courses, I could go to the courses that I really enjoyed and which were from different faculties. It was not all beautiful. I did not have a room on the campus, so I was sleeping on the floor in the room of friends. I squeezed juice boxes and sold them for 5 to buy me food, and every Sunday I went 12 kilometers to eat a copious meal at the Hare Krishna Temple. I loved Sunday days. A course that I really enjoyed was the calligraphy course (it was probably one of the best in the country). I have learned about the types of Serif and Sans Serif, the variation of the space between the letters and the things that make excellent writing. It seemed fascinating to me. None of this has a practical application in my life. But over 10 years, when we were working on the design of the first Macintosh, we were able to put everything we had learned in the Mac's typographic architecture. If I had not done the calligraphy course, Macintosh would not have had the types of fonts and write capabilities she now has. And as Windows copied the Macintosh, probably no computer in the world would have had it! Obviously, it would have been impossible to unite these points in my life before. Just looking back you can join the points. So you have to trust that, in a way, the points will unite at one point. You have to believe in something: intuition, destiny, life, karma, anything. This approach never disappointed me and made the difference in my life. About Love and Loss I was lucky, I learned early what I want to do alive. I started Apple in my parents' garage when I was 20 years old. In 10 years, the company has grown from a garage to a $ 2 billion company and 4,000 employees. For a year we had released the Macintosh, and I was 30 years old. Then I was fired. How can you be fired from a company you founded? Well, when Apple was growing up, I hired someone very talented to help me, and for a year the job went well. Then our vision of the future has taken different paths, and so our dissensions have emerged. When this happened, the board of directors kept the side of it, and I was kicked out. The work of a whole life was lost. I wanted to get away somewhere, but something did not leave me. I still like what I do, I like my work. I was rejected, but I still loved it. So I decided to start again from 0. Then I did not understand, but now I know that being kicked out was the best thing for me. The weight of being a successful person has been replaced by the ease of being a beginner again, less sure of the things around me. I have entered the most creative period of my life. In the next 5 years we founded Next and Pixar. I met Laurene, who became my wife. I created the first animated movie on my computer and I became the most successful animation studio in the world. Apple bought Next, and the technology I developed at Next is at Apple's base today. I went back to Apple, and Laurene and I have a wonderful family together. None of this could have happened if I was not kicked out of Apple. It was a very bitter drug, but the patient needed it. Do not lose your faith! I'm sure the only thing that made me move forward was love for what I was doing. You have to discover what you love. I wouldit's also in work, and with people. Work will take much of your life and the only way to be really satisfied is to have beautiful achievements. And you can not have beautiful achievements unless you LOVE what you do. If you have not yet found, keep looking. Do not be happy with a little. As with all soul-related issues, you will know when you will find it. And as the years pass, everything will become more beautiful. Do not just forget: do not be happy with it!

About death

When I was 17, I read something that profoundly impressed me: "If you live every day as well

when it is the last, one day you will surely be right! "

Remembering that I was going to die was the most important tool I had to take

the big decisions in life. Because everything, all the external expectations, all the pride, all the shame and

fear of failure, all disappear in the face of death, leaving only what is really important. Hold it

remember that you will die is the best way to avoid the trap of thinking that you have something to lose. You're already

naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

One year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I got the diagnosis at 7:30 in the morning:

I had a tumor in the pancreas. I did not even know what that pancreas was. The doctors told me it was definitely one

of those cancers that can not be treated and therefore I would still live between 3 and 6 months.

I was told to go to make my business order, the doctors' language meaning 'you'll die'.

The night of that day was a biopsy: I put an endoscope through my stomach and

intestines, to the pancreas and, with a needle, took a few cells out of the tumor.

I was anesthetized, but my wife said the doctors started crying when they looked

at microscope. It was a very rare form of cancer that could be cured by surgery. I did

and now I'm fine.

This was the moment I was closest to death and I hope this is true

for decades. Now that I felt on my skin, I can say things with greater certainty

than when death was just a purely intellectual concept.

Nobody wants to die. Even people who want to get to heaven do not want to die to

they get there. And yet, death is the destination of all. Nobody has ever escaped her. And so

it must be, because death is the greatest invention of life. Agent of change. Cleanse

the old to make room for the new. Now you are new, but soon you will be old and you will be

remove. I'm sorry to be so dramatic, but that's the truth.

Everyone's time is limited, he does not consume it by living the lives of others. Do not let go of it, that's it

do not live by the rules of others. Do not let the noise of other people's opinions silence your own voice

Indoor. And, most importantly, you have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They already know what you want to become.

Everything else is irrelevant.

Thank you very much."
